Advantix (imidacloprid plus permethrin) is an insecticidal product that kills fleas and repels ticks on dogs. It acts on the insect's central nervous system ultimately causing its death. While safe for dogs permethrins are very toxic for cats and should never be used on them. This product is intended to be used topically on a monthly basis in dogs over 7 weeks of age. Between 98-100% of fleas are killed within 12 hours and ticks are also repelled. Shampooing should be avoided within 48 hours of application. Otherwise efficacy remains intact even after swimming or bathing. While an extremely safe product in dogs, it is not recommended for use in pregnant, nursing, or debilitated pets.
